Anthon Berg Single Malt Whisky Chocolates
Indulging in the decadence of miniature chocolate bottles brimming with whisky is a delightful way to usher in the festive cheer, and Anthon Berg's Single Malt Chocolates have undoubtedly become my year-round treat.

Hailing from the Danish chocolatier with a heritage to rival some of the distilleries in Scotland, Anthon Berg began crafting chocolate in 1884 but it was in the 1920s that they embarked on a journey combining chocolate with liqueur. However, the game-changing moment came in the 1970s when they developed and patented a machine to fill small chocolate bottles with a little taste of actual liqueur - these are not merely chocolates flavoured with liqueur, they are bona fide liquid-filled delights.
The presentation of these chocolates is a prelude to the experience within. The box, adorned with golden script celebrating the company’s illustrious history and connection to the Royal Danish Court, is a testament to the regal treat that awaits. The chocolates themselves, shaped like miniature bottles and swathed in golden foil, don tiny labels showcasing the liqueurs within. Purely exquisite!
While Anthon Berg offers assortments featuring a plethora of liqueurs, including the likes of Remy Martin, Cointreau and Drambuie, my personal preference leans toward the single malt selection. Available in various quantities (most commonly 5 or 15), these chocolates feature five distinguished whisky expressions: The Singleton 12, Dalwhinnie 15, Oban 14, Talisker 10 and Lagvulin 16. A selection that surely caters to the discerning palate of every single malt enthusiast.
I love a chunk or two of chocolate (especially dark chocolate) with my whisky so stumbling across these miniature bottles recently was certainly serendipitous. Although they were once a perennial Christmas delight in my younger years, they had somehow slipped from my consciousness. Rediscovering them proved to be a sheer delight – first-class whiskies seamlessly paired with delectable dark chocolate, an unequivocally perfect match.
